Gastroenterology: (GI) Clinic

Gastroenterology is a medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, pancreas, liver and biliary system.

Our Service is made up of physicians, advanced practice nurses, registered nurses, medical instrument technicians, and administrative staff. It is a privilege for us to provide the nation’s Veterans with the most current and up to date practices in the field of gastroenterology.

The GI system:

  • digests and moves food
  • absorbs nutrients
  • removes waste from your body

Gastroenterology  offers specialized management of the following:

  • Peptic ulcer disease
  • Prevention of colorectal cancer
  • Diseases of the esophagus including evaluation and treatment of heartburn as well as swallowing difficulties
  • Viral infections of the liver, including Hepatitis C and Hepatitis B
  • Management of patients following liver transplantation
  • Management of patients with inflammatory bowel disease
  • Diagnosis and treatment of patients with intestinal and liver complications of AIDS
  • Chronic abdominal pain
  • Chronic constipation

Types of general GI symptoms include the following:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Gas in the GI tract
  • GI bleeding
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
