Chiropractic is one of many ways to treat back and neck pain.  It is a “hands on” treatment performed by your doctor of chiropractic, to try to decrease your symptoms or pain, and improve the function of your spine.

Your doctor will examine you and decide if your symptoms are because of a mechanical problem. If it is “mechanical pain” it may change or get better with chiropractic care.   Mechanical pain is when your pain can be made better or worse with certain motions or positions.

Chiropractic may help to provide relief for your back and/or neck pain. It may also improve movement in your back or neck and reduce your pain. If it does decrease your pain, you may be able to talk to your primary care doctor about needing less pain medication.

Chiropractic care may help you to do exercise. Increased exercise can also help decrease your pain.

The most common condition that chiropractors treat is back pain.

Chiropractic treatment may be helpful in treating back pain with different causes such as:

  • Pain coming from your back
  • Pain coming from a disc
  • Joint pain
  • Pain from after surgery
  • Pain from nerve injury or "Sciatica"

Chiropractors also treat:

  • Neck pain
  • Headaches
  • Shoulder pain
  • Arm pain
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Hip pain
  • Foot pain
  • Other causes of muscle or joint pain

Within the Cincinnati VAMC and Fort Thomas, your chiropractor is a member of the health care team.  We all work together to give you the best care.  If you feel that you have a condition that can be helped by chiropractic treatment, please speak to your primary care provider to help you find the treatment option that's right for you.

Often, the most helpful treatment can be with a few team members working together to help you with your pain.
