Veterans will show off their artistic talents through a Creative Arts Show on Friday, February 23, 2018. The show will be held from 12 pm to 3 pm in the Auditorium at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center.

The competition is an annual event that provides Veterans receiving treatment at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center the opportunity to participate in creative self-expression in art, creative writing, dance, drama and music as part of their therapy, and to gain recognition for these artistic accomplishments.

Local Veterans have participated in the past through mediums of painting, drawing, sculpture and photography; applied art that includes ceramics, woodcarving, needlework and leatherwork; and craft kits such as string art, fabric art and wood building. The competition includes 51 categories in the visual arts division such as oil painting and leatherwork, and 100 performing arts categories to include music, drama, dance, comedy, and creative writing.

Cincinnati area artists will judge the artwork to determine first, second and third place in each category. Any first-place winners will be submitted for national competition judging.

First place winners from the national competition will be invited to attend the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival, hosted this year by VA Central Iowa Health Care System in Des Moines, Iowa the week of October 29 – November 5, 2018 with the art exhibit, creative writers meet and greet, and stage show performance on Sunday, November 4, 2018.
