Situation Update

As of Friday, August 14, 2020 10:36 AM EDT

Throughout the COVID-19 outbreak the Cincinnati VA Medical Center has provided and will continue to provide care to Veterans who rely heavily on us for those services with safety as our number one priority. Though we never fully closed our doors we want to ensure all Veterans know we remain ready to serve you and we want you to continue to connect with us. Many appointments, where clinically appropriate, can be done through the convenience of a virtual connection. We highly encourage you to stay connected with us by calling your health care provider for different appointment options.

 Operational Update

As we continue to open our doors wider slowly and carefully we want to reassure you that we will follow best practices at all Cincinnati VA Medical Center facilities to ensure the safety and health of our staff and the Veterans we serve.

Please know that your visits will look different. We have taken proactive steps to enhance safety such as more frequent cleaning of exam rooms, in patient floors and waiting areas. We have installed plexiglass at check in stations, reduced traffic in our facilities and staggered appointment times to ensure appropriate distancing. Staff will continue to practice vigilant hand hygiene and we will educate patients to wash their hands frequently.

Below are more of the updates we have made with a focus on your safety:

SCREENING
We will continue to require all who enter our facilities to answer screening questions and we will continue to take everyone’s temperature prior to entry.

VIRTUAL VISITS AND SOCIAL DISTANCING
We will continue to practice social distancing and provide clinical care options through virtual means such as Veteran Video Connect (VVC) or telephonically, as clinically appropriate. We will mark appropriate distances on the floors and have seating placement to represent appropriate social distancing, avoid tight spacing and reduce the likelihood of spread.

MASKS FOR ALL
To keep everyone safe and slow the potential spread, we are requiring everyone at all Cincinnati VA Medical Center facilities to wear a mask at all times.

VISITORS/GUESTS

No visitors will be allowed in the facility, with the following exceptions:

    • End of life care/Hospice may allow one visitor
    • If Veteran needs assistance getting to or from their care, they may be accompanied by one caregiver

We are limiting visitors to prevent the exposure of the patients who are sick and hospitalized and with potentially compromised immune systems. The potential for exposure to asymptomatic COVID 19+ individuals is much greater with this virus given the number of individuals who show no symptoms with this virus.

Veterans are also encouraged to call us at 513-861-3100 for general questions. For more information about VA´s Connected Care technologies, visit connectedcare.va.gov.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation during this time. We look forward to the honor of continuing to serve you – our Nation’s Heroes.
