MHA, FACHE, Director, Cincinnati VAMC

Mr. Mark Murdock was appointed the Medical Center Director at the Cincinnati, Ohio, VA Medical Center on October 28, 2018. Prior to coming to the Cincinnati VA Medical Center, Mr. Murdock served as the Medical Center Director at the Chillicothe, Ohio, VA Medical Center from September 4, 2017 to October 28, 2018. Mr. Murdock also served prior leadership terms as the Acting Director for the Chillicothe VA Medical Center, as the Associate Director of the Dayton VA Medical Center and was appointed the Assistant Director of the Dayton VA Medical Center on September 26, 2010.

His VA career has included assignments as Health System Specialist, Surgical Service at the Dayton VAMC; and as the Program Manager, VISN 10/11 Tele-Nurse Triage Program, Dayton, OH. Before coming to the VA, following retirement from active duty, he worked for private sector companies and government contractors in the healthcare industry.
Mr. Murdock retired as a Medical Service Corp (MSC) Officer from the United States Air Force in 1999. During his Air Force career, Mr. Murdock was assigned to Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton OH, Charleston AFB, SC, Misawa AB, Japan, and Aviano AB, Italy.

Mr. Murdock is board certified in healthcare administration by the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) in which he holds membership as a Fellow (FACHE), and is a member of the Greater Ohio Healthcare Leaders Forum (GOHLF). Mr. Murdock is also a graduate of the 2012 VHA Healthcare Leadership Institute (HCLI).

Mr. Murdock is a native of Sackets Harbor, New York. Mr. Murdock is a graduate of Park University with a B.S. in Healthcare Management and holds a Master's Degree in Health Service Administration from Xavier University, Ohio. Mr. Murdock and his wife, Stephanie, have four daughters.

Associate Director

Mr. Goins previously served in the VA as a VISN Supply Chain Officer in VISN 10, Assistant Medical Center Director at the Durham VAMC, and Facility Logistics Officer, acting Human Resources Officer and acting Fiscal Officer at the Chillicothe VAMC.

Mr. Goins is an OEF Veteran and a 10-year Navy Veteran, where he served as a Hospital Corpsman and a Medical Service Corps Officer; his duty stations included Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, Naval Hospital Portsmouth, Camp Stone, Herat Afghanistan, and Naval Station Newport. He earned his BA in Economics from Western Washington University and MBA in Operations and Process Improvement from The Ohio State University. He holds a black belt certification in Lean/Six Sigma and is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Chief of Staff

Dr Brill is an Army Veteran who spent 12 years on active duty as a physician in a number of leadership roles across assignments, including Texas, South Korea, and Germany.

Before coming to the Cincinnati VA, Dr Brill served as the COO of Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, OH. Prior to that, Dr. Brill held a leadership role in Surgical Services Administration at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL.

Dr Brill completed her undergraduate studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and earned her medical degree from The Pritzker School of Medicine at The University of Chicago. She was a recipient of ROTC and HPSP Army scholarships. She is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

After completing her military service, she earned an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and worked in health care consulting with The Boston Consulting Group before returning to hospital administration.

Dr. Brill is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives. She is a recipient of the Army Commendation Medal.

Acting Associate Director Patient Care Services

Ms. Susan Wood, MSN, RN, VHA-CM was appointed as Acting Associate Director Patient Care Services in November 2018 at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center. She had served as Deputy Associate Director of Patient Care Services at SAVAHCS (Tucson, AZ) since October 2017. Ms. Wood has provided leadership and oversight to six programs including: Community Living Center, Home Based Primary Care, Home & Community Programs, Nutrition & Food Service, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Southwest Blind Rehabilitation.

Previous positions include: Chief Rehabilitation & Transitional Careline; First Associate Chief Nurse for Surgical/Medical ICU, Step-Down Unit, and the Emergency Department; Associate Chief Nurse for Outpatient Specialty Services, which included Hemodialysis Unit, Sterile Processing Services, Operating Room and PACU. Ms. Wood’s service as Chief Nurse for the Outpatient Specialty Services, included Outpatient and Procedural Services at SAVAHCS.

Ms. Wood originally joined the VA in 1996, as a Registered Nurse in the Community Living Center at the Edwards Hines, Jr., VA Hospital in Hines, Illinois. She has over 20 years of experience as a Registered Nurse with expertise in the Community Living Center, Patient Safety Manager, Research Coordinator, and Nurse Manager for Critical Care areas. Ms. Wood attained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1996, and a Master of Science in Nursing in 2014, both from St. Xavier University. Ms. Wood also serves as a VHA certified mentor at the fellow level.
