Veterans Community Outreach Division Relocates
Help for Homeless Veterans
The Cincinnati Veterans Affairs Medical Center is relocating part of the Community Outreach Division (COD) from the Ft. Thomas Division, Kentucky to 907 Vine Street, Cincinnati in late August. The 3,900 square ft. downtown office space will be occupied with 24 employees.
Their mission of community outreach to homeless Veterans moves them in a location with close access to resources, community partners and programs that will help serve their clients.
“While we are a highly mobile division, having a low-access, storefront office strategically located on Vine Street will increase our effectiveness in winning the war on Veteran homelessness,” said Chris Chatfield, chief of Social Work. “Veterans will be able to easily access our services, and we are also located in close proximity to other agencies which serve homeless and low-income persons. Community partners helped us locate this space, and we have also been working with Downtown Cincinnati, Inc. We look forward to being a good neighbor while also helping homeless Veterans, currently clustered downtown to get the help they deserve in locating and maintaining permanent housing in Hamilton County.”
Seven members of the COD staff will remain at the Ft. Thomas Division to focus on serving homeless Veterans currently residing in Northern Kentucky. The program is in support of Secretary Shinseki’s initiative to eliminate Veteran homelessness by 2015.
