WW II Veteran, Louis “Dean” Giacometti along with his wife, Patricia of 74 years celebrated his 99th birthday yesterday. A host of friends, former football players and his long time Cincinnati VA Primary Care Providers, Dr. James Huey, retired Chief of Primary Care and Sara Krzywkowski-Mohn, Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) join them to celebrate.

Dean served from 1942 to 1945 in the Army Air Corps at Okinawa, Japan. Following his time in service he returned to Cincinnati, OH and attended the University of Cincinnati (UC) where he earned a Bachelor Degree in History and Secondary Education. While at UC, Dean began his football career as an Offensive Tight End at 5’10” and 160 lbs.

In 1947 Dean was hired at Walnut Hills High School as a History teacher and continued his football career as the Head Football Coach. He coached football at Walnut Hills from 1947 through 1966 with his best team record being eight wins and two losses.

He has been inducted in to the Hall of Fame at both Walnut Hills and Cincinnati Public Schools. In 2018 at the University of Cincinnati versus Navy Football game, Dean as a former UC football player was honored and recognized as the oldest living UC letterman. In addition, there is a Dean Giacometti Annual Scholarship awarded to a deserving female and male Walnut Hills student who will be attending the University of Cincinnati in the Fall.

We salute you and hope you had a great birthday, Dean!

Thank you to Family Nurse Practitioner(FNP) Sara Krzywkowski-Mohn and Dr. James Huey, retired Chief of Primary Care who developed a relationship with "Dean". It is a blessing to be invited into the lives of the Veterans we serve especially on such joyous occasions.
