LINDA D. SMITH, FACHE, Medical Center Director

Ms. Smith was appointed Director of the Cincinnati VA Medical Center on October 30, 2005. Immediately prior to coming to Cincinnati, Ms. Smith worked as the Associate Director of the Cleveland VA Medical Center for three years. One year of that assignment was spent on detail to the Dayton VA Medical Center as Acting Director from July 2004 to July 2005. Ms. Smith’s previous assignments included working in VA Central Office, Washington, DC, as the National Director of Administrative Operations for the Employee Education System. Other VA leadership positions included assignments as Associate Director and Acting Director at the Beckley VA

Medical Center, Associate Director at the Columbus VA Outpatient Clinic and Chief Information Officer for the VA Medical Center, Veterans Integrated Service Networks (VISN’s) in Durham, NC and Cincinnati, OH. Ms. Smith received her master’s degree in Healthcare Public Administration from Cleveland State University and her undergraduate degree from Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, IL.
Ms. Smith began her VA career at Cleveland in 1980 as a personnel management trainee, progressing to the position of supervisor of the Labor and Employee Relations Section. She was selected as Staff Assistant to the Director at Cleveland in 1987 and held that position until 1993, when she entered the Associate Director training program.
She is a Fellow (FACHE) of the American College of Healthcare Executives and recipient of a statewide award from the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) service organization. Ms. Smith completed VA’s SES Candidate Development Program in August 2004.
Ms. Smith has a son, Mark, who is in graduate school at the University of Delaware.


Dave Ninnemann Associate Director

Mr. Ninneman was appointed as Associate Director at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center on January 2007. Prior to being appointed to this position, Mr. Ninneman was the Chief, Engineering Service at the Cincinnati facility. He received a Master’s in Business Administration degree from Xavier University in 1988 and a Bachelor’s of Architecture degree from the University of Cincinnati in 1979. Mr. Ninneman is a Registered Architect in the State of Ohio.
He is a member of the American Society of Healthcare Engineers and served as the local chapter’s President in 1992. Dave and his wife Karen have been married 24 years and have two daughters.

Sidney R. Steinberg, MD, FACS Chief of Staff
Dr. Steinberg was appointed Chief of Staff at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center on April 27, 2008. His previous appointment was Chief of Staff at the Salisbury VA Medical Center where he served since January 2003 and served as Interim Director from November form 2006 to April 2007. Dr Steinberg was appointed to the faculty of Wake Forest University School of Medicine as Associate Professor of Surgery and served as Vice Chair of the Dean's Committee. Under Dr Steinberg’s tenure at Salisbury VAMC, the facility developed and expanded affiliations with two major academic affiliates, Wake Forest School of Medicine and the New Edward VIA School of Osteopathic Medicine at Virginia Tech

University. In addition, he was instrumental in the planning of two new centers in Charlotte and Hickory and in the expansion of inpatient medical services at Salisbury. Dr Steinberg earned his BA at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky and his MD at the University of Kentucky. He is an Army veteran who served for ten years in the US Army Medical Corps and then served as Colonel of the US Army Reserve-Medical Corps, where he was Commander of the 475th Combat Support Hospital and State Surgeon in Kentucky. In addition, he served as Hospital Commander of Wynn Army Community Hospital at Fort Stewart, Georgia and subsequently as Deputy Commander for Clinical Services at Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Gordon, Georgia. Dr Steinberg was recalled to active duty during Desert Storm, giving up his private surgical practice in order to serve his country. He has received many Military Awards, including the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Army Commendation Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters. Dr. Steinberg is an ECF Field coach and Mentor and a National Advanced Clinic Access Coach.
